Description
DUKE F1 is a hybrid from the z variety segment resistance to turnip yellows virus (TuVY).
It contains many features that positively influence the amount and reliability of yields. A variety characterized by very good health. Perfect combination of features: 2 in 1 – double resistance to diseases:
viral – TuYV turnip yellows disease resistance gene
fungal – RLM 7 dry rot resistance gene
In the case of variety DUKE F1 Additionally, the already known one was introduced RLM7 gene – resistance to dry rot (Phoma lingam). Brassica dry rot is a serious threat to rapeseed cultivation. The spore stage is formed in autumn on crop residues. To reduce disease pressure, it is worth paying attention to proper crop rotation and plowing through the crop residues left deeply. The fight against self-seeding is also important. In autumn, spores are transferred from fruiting bodies on crop residues to young plants. Then the ascospores germinate, which is facilitated by higher temperature and air humidity. The secondary source of infection are pycnidia, i.e. black dots on light brown or beige oval spots at the site of infection, they release conidial spores. The fungus grows from the leaves through the petiole to the root collar and grows into the base of the stem. The infection may be caused by the spores of two fungi: Leptosphaeria maculans (dangerous in western Poland) and Leptosphaeria biglobosa.
Life cycle of Phoma lingam (Leptosphaeria maculans/biglobosa)
Variety DUKE F1 can be grown on medium and very good soils. The variety is tolerant to periodic droughts and has a very important feature - high resistance to pod cracking and seed shedding. (under shatter resistance). This ensures crop protection in the event of unfavorable weather conditions and extends the optimal harvesting period to up to 7-9 days. The variety is recommended for cultivation in regions with high pressure from aphids (TuYV vectors). Plants of medium height, resistant to lodging and easy to thresh. DUKE F1 it starts flowering early and ripens medium early.
DUKE F1 a variety genetically adapted to higher efficiency of the nitrogen used. In good site conditions, it can produce high yields with a lower nitrogen supply.
DUKE F1 – very high efficiency of N use, the variety yielded 390 kg/ha higher compared to the TuYV standard.
